What Makes You S.P.E.C.I.A.L.?
In the Infinite Frontiers, attributes play a vital role in defining your character's strengths, weaknesses, and abilities. There are seven core attributes: Swiftness, Prowess, Endurance, Charisma, Intuition, Aptitude, and Luck. Each attribute is ranked on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 representing the lowest possible score and 10 being the highest.
Mechanics of Attributes
Attributes, in the simplest terms possible, impact the total number of bonus dice that can be used when performing an action. A higher attribute means the potential for more dice, which translates to a higher chance of success.
Additionally, your attribute score also limits the number of points that can be invested in the skills associated with that attribute. For example, if your character has an Aptitude value of 3, then the highest value of any single skill in the Aptitude tree cannot exceed 3.
Let's dive into what each attribute represents and its importance in gameplay:
Swiftness (S)
Swiftness measures your character's speed, reflexes, and overall physical grace. It impacts your ability to dodge attacks, hit targets with ranged weapons, perform acrobatic feats, and excel in stealth situations. Characters like nimble rogues, sharpshooters, or assassins benefit from a high Swiftness score.
Prowess (P)
Prowess represents your character's combat skill, both in melee and ranged combat. It affects your ability to land successful attacks, deal damage, and effectively use various weapons. Characters focused on combat, such as warriors, bounty hunters, or martial artists, benefit from a high Prowess score.
Endurance (E)
Endurance measures your character's stamina, resilience, and overall health. It affects resistance to disease and poison, and the capacity to withstand physical punishment. Characters who need to endure the rigors of combat or harsh environments, like soldiers or explorers, benefit from a high Endurance score.
Charisma (C)
Charisma represents your character's charm, persuasiveness, and personal magnetism. It impacts social interactions, such as diplomacy, deception, and intimidation. Characters who rely on their wits and social skills, like diplomats, con artists, or leaders, benefit from a high Charisma score.
Intuition (I)
Intuition measures your character's gut instincts, awareness, and ability to read people and situations. It affects perception, insight, and the ability to notice hidden clues or dangers. Characters like detectives, scouts, or mystics benefit from a high Intuition score.
Aptitude (A)
Aptitude represents your character's intellect, knowledge, and problem-solving abilities. It impacts the capacity to learn and apply new skills, as well as the ability to think critically and solve puzzles. Characters who rely on their intelligence, like scientists, engineers, or tacticians, benefit from a high Aptitude score.
Luck (L)
Luck is a unique attribute that represents your character's fortune, fate, or divine favor. It affects various aspects of gameplay, such as the likelihood of critical hits, the chance to find valuable items, or the ability to succeed in situations where the odds are against you. All characters can benefit from a high Luck score, as it offers an unpredictable edge in various situations.
